Magnificent Grizzly Bear bust by sculptor Matt Buckley - from the EDGE contemporary sculpture collection. Native to North America, grizzly bears are an iconic symbol of the wild. These awe-inspiring giants tend to be solitary animals - with the exception of females and their cubs - but when they do congregate it can be a dramatic sight, for example certain Alaskan rivers when the salmon run upstream for summer spawning. In this season, dozens of bears may gather to feast on the fish, craving fats that will sustain them through the long winter ahead.
Having shared territory with Native American Indians for centuries, the Grizzly Bear is widely revered for its strength and many tribes feel a strong spiritual connection to this powerful creature. The grizzly's fearsome roar is captured perfectly by sculptor Matt Buckley.
